Clayton Pharmacy is now offering NHS-funded treatment and advice for simple urinary tract infections in Clayton Pharmacy.
The Pharmacy First Service offers free consultation and, if clinically appropriate, treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) symptoms to non-pregnant women aged 16 to 64 without requiring a visit to your general practitioner. Make an online appointment.
*Your eligibility and suitability for the Free NHS Pharmacy First Service will be assessed by the pharmacist. You might not always need an antibiotic to treat your symptoms. Additionally, the pharmacist may send you to your general practitioner or another provider for additional evaluation and treatment if they discover that your symptoms point to a more serious infection or another condition.
What is Urinary Tract Infection?
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are bacterial infections of the urinary tract. Cystitis of the bladder, kidneys, or urethra are among them. After evaluating the symptoms, a medical expert decides whether to prescribe antibiotics to treat UTIs.
What are the signs and symptoms of UTI?
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) can have a range of signs and symptoms, these include:
* Increased frequency of going to the toilet to pass urine than usual.
* The sensation of burning or pain whilst passing urine (dysuria)
* Going more frequently to the toilet to pass urine during the night than usual (nocturia)
* Needing to pee more urgently or suddenly than usual
* Blood in urine
* Pain in the lower abdomen or your back, just below the ribs
* Feeling hot or having a high temperature
* Feeling very cold, temperature below 36 degrees celsius
* Cloudy looking pee
Additionally, your urine may smell and appear black. This can also occur if you are not drinking enough fluids and you have no other symptoms.
Which treatment options are provided for uncomplicated UTIs through the Pharmacy First Service?
During a consultation, one of the pharmacists will evaluate your symptoms. It is possible that the Pharmacy First Service will suggest you a treatment. if you qualify for this service and it is clinically suitable. Among the available treatments are:
Tablets and capsules containing antibiotics are used to treat urinary tract infections (UTI).
*Unless you qualify for free prescriptions, you will be responsible for paying the regular NHS prescription fee if you are given a prescription medication.
The pharmacist will suggest an alternative or direct you to another service if they are unable to provide treatment through this one.
